Yes. All courses taught by 1st Support are to the American Heart Guidelines. Our instructors are regularly re-certified by the AHA to verify that the skills taught meet the rigorous standards.

There are two parts required when receiving your certification, the book/video knowledge and the hands on practice. Some students will take the full class in person where they will review the videos as part of a live class, and practice the skills learned during the videos. Others will watch the videos at home, then come to the office to practice the hands on skills. Both groups will receive the same high quality training.

The hybrid option allows for the videos to be watched at home therefore shortening the time required in person.

The time required to complete a skill session, or hands on practice, depends on your level of comfort with the skills required, the number of questions, and the number of other students. Most skill sessions last between 45-90 min.

Our courses are taught out of a pediatric therapy center, JLD Therapy, so when you are looking for our office if you see what appears to be a daycare you are in the right place! We are located on the second floor in suite 2G. Our office is located at 826 N. Winchester Blvd. San Jose, CA 95128.

We understand plans change so we try to be as flexible as possible. While other companies charge a cancellation fee we are happy to help you schedule another day with us free of charge!

While pre-registration is always a good idea, we are happy to take walk in appointments during the designated class time. If we don’t have students registered for the class the instructor may cancel the class, so if you just show up we might not be there to help. If you pre-register, we will make sure one of our instructors are there to help you with your training.

While pre-registration is not required, we always prefer it! Just click the “Register Now” button next to the course you would like to take. You will be given a list of days, times, and instructors who have upcoming classes.

If you have pre-registered for the class, you can pay online using the secure payment processing system. Payments received in advanced also receive a discount, so be sure to plan ahead and pre-register. If you prefer to pay in person, we are happy to accept cash, check, or credit card. Checks can be made out to First Support CPR.
We are always happy to make any accommodations needed to make your learning experience a positive one. We have adjustable tables for students to practice on.

Please note: You will be required to demonstrate the appropriate skills in order to receive your certificate.
Great news! We are one of the first training sites to offer E-Cards, so you no longer need to worry about losing your card. But, if you had a paper card that was lost we would be happy to help you reprint the card for $30, just call our office.

If you registered for the wrong class, you can return and bring your card (within one month) and take the other class for half price.

The American Heart Association CPR and First-aid cards are valid for 2 years.
NO!

Warning: There are a lot of courses that can be taken 100% online, but they are not approved by the American Heart Association, and often will not be accepted by your employer. They are not accepted since the information being presented has not been verified and may not be accurate. Don’t be ripped off by these classes! Take the time to do it correctly with an official American Heart Association course.

Students need time to practice the skills they learned so a quality course will have time specifically for hands on practice

At this time, first-time certifications and renewals take the same amount of time. The research is always changing and it is important that students are training on the most up to date information so they are able to have the best chance for saving a life.

The training for child care First Aid and CPR is required to be a total of 8 hours (4 hours for first aid, and four hours for CPR) EACH time a child care provider takes the course. The child care First Aid and CPR training must be repeated every two years at minimum.
